5/2 5/11: Steel Magnolias (8pm 10pm): With an uncanny way of delivering humor and heartfelt moments the Old Town Temecula Community Theater stage showcases the beauty of close friendships, heartache, and happiness. Tickets cost between $14 and $17. Contact: 866-653-8696.
5/8: 9th Annual Youth Art Exhibition Opening Night Reception (5pm): Head for the Promenade Mall (40820 Winchester Rd) to enjoy a thought-provoking display of art focused on "Earth Day" this year's theme. 5/17 5/18: Western Days (11am 5pm):
The Wild West comes alive right in the middle of Old Town with gunfights, western music, pony rides for the kids, and delicious chili simmering in pots for a cook-off you dont want to miss. Contact: 951-694-6412
5/18: Come Fly A Kite Day (2pm 4pm): Allow the pleasant weather to sweep you away at the Paloma Del Sol Park (32099 De Portola Rd), where colorful kites take the warm winds with plenty to look forward to, including music, kite contests, free prize drawings, and other treats. Contact: 951-694-6412.
5/19: Young People's Concert (7:30pm 9:30pm): Imagine Old Town Temecula Community Theater. Join the Inland Valley Symphony for an event that will certainly capture the imagination with Franz von Suppe (Light Cavalry Overture) and a little something for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest. 5/24: The Harlem Quartet (7:30pm 9:30pm):
Head for the Old Town Temecula Community Theater to experience the melodic magic of four remarkable solo artists who come together to perform Ellington's Take the "A" Train to Mozart to Marsalis. I think this is a great way to get children to embrace the diversity of the performing arts. Tickets range from $2.50 (child with adult) to $30. Contact: 866-653-8696.
5/25: Wild Women of Broadway (2pm 4pm): The OnStage Cabaret Orchestra aims to please with a collection of Broadway favorites sung by the likes of Mara Getz and Kirsten Chandler. This is yet another Old Town Temecula Community Theater extravaganza to consider.
5/30: Family Fun Night- Magic Show (6pm 7:30pm): You can't beat the inexpensive outing of a truly magical get-together with Temecula's own "Amazing Dana," who sets up shop at the Community Recreation Center (30875 Rancho Vista Road). Since there is limited seating, pre-registration is a must. A $3 fee is expected, while children under two are admitted for free. Refreshments are available. Contact 951-694-6480.
Wine Country Events
May Temecula events concerning the wineries opens up the calendar for enchanting outings regarding the May 11th holiday where mothers are treated like royalty.
If you'd like to beat the rush of scrambling sons and husbands, perhaps paying a visit to the 20th annual Thornton Winery Champagne Jazz Series creates a welcome surprise. Have you ever tasted a wine margarita before? Here's your chance as Cinco de Mayo (a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride) comes to town with carne asada and pollo, green chili soufflι, guacamole, salsa, chips, rice, and dessert.

5/3 5/4: 14th Annual Rose & Arts Festival: Breathtaking roses filled with exotic magnetism are the guests of honor at this free event that allows you to admire some of the blooms associated with the likes of Cambodia, Vietnam, and China. 5/10: Mother's Day Tea Party (1pm 3pm): The Mary Phillips Senior Center (41845 6th Street) serves as a memorable outing for grandmothers, mothers, and daughters to share.
